Scottish footballer fighting for life after being mown down

In harrowing news overnight, it’s been reported that a young Scottish footballer is fighting for his life after being mown down in the early hours.

According to The Sun, 24-year-old Dean Watson was critically injured when he was struck by a Mitsubishi pickup.

It’s believed that he was walking down a country road which was near Ecclefechan.

Watson, a midfielder with South of Scotland side Dalbeattie Star, was originally taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with head injuries, before he was moved to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

It is thought that the player – a midfielder with South of Scotland side Dalbeattie Star – suffered head injuries.

The report note that his current condition is described as critical but stable, and police are appealing for information following the incident.

The player’s club posted a touching tribute on their official X (formerly Twitter) account.

‘Everyone at Dalbeattie Star would like to pass our best wishes to current player, Dean Watson, who was involved in a serious traffic incident near Ecclefechan in the early hours of this morning,’ it read. ‘Keep fighting Deano.’
