The Daily Mail is today suggesting an interesting case of swapsies. Andy Johnson is apparently homesick for life dahhn sahrf whilst Jermain Defoe is tired of being verbally spanked by Martin Jol.
Whereas breaking into, and staying in, the Tottenham first team remains a sticking point for Defoe, Johnson is again being linked with a move away from Everton because he is homesick, but Johnson’s problems extend onto the field with goals proving very hard to come by for the hard working slaphead.
The Mail gives a supposedly confident prediction that
“Defoe looks a certainty to leave Spurs in January if Martin Jol remains in charge and Tottenham are known to be long term admirers of Johnson.”
Could this be a good way out of two tricky situations for these clubs, or is this tabloid tittle tattle – and is any deal that is contingent on Martin Jol still being manager of Tottenham in January on very shaky ground. It certainly puts a new twist on other rumours that Defoe loves London, loves Tottenham and is only staying because he thinks Jol will soon be sacked and he will then get his chance.
