Is Ten Cate Really Enough To Stop The Rot At Chelsea?

The Sun is reporting for the second day that Ajax manager Henk Ten Cate is going to take the job as Assistant Coach at Chelsea. Ten Cate will bring his movie star good looks (well at least compared to Avram Grant) and his tactical nous to Stamford Bridge.

Sigi Lens, Ten Cate’s agent thinks everything will be wrapped up next week, Lens said:

“It’s true we have an agreement with Chelsea. It’s an opportunity for him, a challenge for him to work with a big team and work with Avram Grant to build a new team.”

Ten Cate thinks he knows this whole Assistant manager lark inside out, after all that was his position at Barcelona under Frank Rijkaard. Lens said:

“Henk knows what’s he’s doing, he did it in Barcelona. The role is very clear. What I know is everybody is excited, they want to work together so why not?”

Yeah, Chelsea have really been the model of teamwork at the management level. Ten Cate and Grant have apparently met and mapped out the luscious beautiful styling football that Roman Abramovich wants, but is Ten Cate really enough to stop the rot – being assistant to Frank Rijkaard is one thing, but assisting the managerial equivalent of Mr Bean is another.
