Blackburn’s Roque Santa Cruz wont listen to the crescendo of pundits and fans that think that he and Benni McCarthy are the best strike force in the Premier League, Santa Cruz thinks that first Blackburn need to win a trophy before the accolades start flowing in. Journo’s are harking back to the heady days of Blackburn’s lethal title winning SAS – Shearer And Sutton – partnership of 1995.
Thanks to Saturday’s 4-2 win over Reading the Blackburn duo now sit side by side on the goalscoring charts with 6 goals each. Santa Cruz said:
“I have read a little bit about Sutton and Shearer. It is nice to be compared to them. Shearer in particular is a great player and I used to like him very much. It is great to be compared to that sort of Premiership player. But it is no good talking about being like them until we have won a cup or something. Everybody wants to win something this year if possible.Fans remember the players who win trophies, not just score lots of goals. And we know the Premier League is the most important one.”
So do you think Santa Cruz and McCarthy are the best strike partnership in the Premier League? Or is your money on Berbatov and Keane – such a strong partnership that the 25 million pair of Defoe and Bent are more often than not left out in the cold. How about Arsenal’s duo of Van Persie and Adebayour? Tevez and Rooney are starting to click for Manchester United while Liverpool have… um, like 6 guys who might play at any given time…
