Fabregas Injury a Nightmare for Arsenal Title Hopes

It’s not yet been confirmed but the Telegraph report that Arsenal could be without star midfielder Cesc Fabregas for another three league matches:

Fabregas limped off during Arsenal’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Sevilla on Tuesday night, with reports suggesting the young Spaniard will be out for at least 10 days.

This couldn’t be worse timing as far as the Gunners’ title hopes are concerned. Although they’re riding high at the top of the Premier League, this is partly due to the fact they’ve played eight of their thirteen matches at home. The next ten days sees them travel to Villa Park, St James’ Park and the Riverside and it will be a blow if they’re without arguably their best player for this crucial period. It took a Cesc-free Arsenal a long time to break Wigan down at home, with neither Denilson nor Diarra the finished article.

Games also come thick and fast after this, with an average of one every four days, as well as their Champions League match against Steaua Bucharest in a fortnight’s time. With the likes of Van Persie, Hleb and Flamini also suffering from niggling injuries, the depth of quality in the Arsenal squad is set be severely tested in the coming weeks.
