Hooray for Jens! Arsenal Keeper Gets a Game

Arsenal’s popular (!) goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is set to start for Arsenal tonight according to The Telegraph. It will be the German’s first match for the Gunners since he spilled the ball into the net at Ewood Park, thus allowing the home team a point in the process.

“It is to keep him fit and competitive,” said Wenger, who took the decision to play Lehmann tonight three weeks ago.

Lehmann has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons this season, firstly by making costly errors against Fulham and Blackburn, which allowed both teams to score. Since being relegated to the subs bench, he’s not been slow to voice his discontent at his perceived unfair treatment at the hands of Arsene Wenger.

Current number one Manuel Almunia appears to have cemented his place in the Arsenal team and it’s likely that Lehmann will have to move elsewhere in January to ensure he remains first choice for his national team.
