Arsenal could be set to make a summer approach for Marseille’s Nicholas N’koulou according to Metro.

The Ligue 1 side are currently facing severe financial problems that means that are likely to have to sell some of their key players come the summer.

22-year old N’koulou has been identified as a player who could generate significant funds and that could pave the way for a summer exit for the Cameroonian defender.

N’koulou is said to be enjoying his time at the club but is open to an exit should it help to improve the club’s precarious financial situation.

‘I want to finish the season strongly and then we will talk about my position’, said N’koulou.

‘I love Marseille, they have been great to me. I am happy if everyone is a winner.’

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer. The Gunners’ boss has seen his side slip away in the race for a Champions League qualification spot after a number of costly mistakes from his back four.

The Frenchman is keen to bring in a centre-back capable of marshaling the backline and believes N’koulou to fit the bill.

A fee in the region of £15 million is thought to be enough to persuade Marseille to sell.
