Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has moved to reassure Juan Mata that he has a future at the club according to The Mirror.

The player has been widely linked with a move to Barcelona in recent days with many suggesting that the Portuguese boss was ready to cash in on the Spanish international.

Those rumours were not proving too popular with the club’s fans who have taken to Mata since his move from Valencia.

Mourinho has moved fast to insist he has no intention of selling Mata and sees him as playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s team for the next campaign.

Barcelona are thought to be continuing to monitor the situation and would jump at the chance of securing the 23 year old’s services.

It is being suggested that the rumours of Mourinho wishing to sell Mata may have originated in Barcelona and it is thought that Chelsea officials are furious at Catalan attempts to unsettle the player.

Rumours were swirling that Mourinho had blocked a proposed pay rise for Mata and that Barcelona were ready to offer £30 million for his signature.

Chelsea have no intention of getting into a war of words with Barcelona but tensions are once again running high between the two clubs.
