The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

27. Manuel Neuer

Another of Bayern’s star studded squad to make the CaughtOffside 50, Neuer was one of the key reasons for the squad conceding so few goals this season on their march to the treble.

He is perhaps the unsung hero of the club’s Champions League success, by keeping four clean sheets against the likes of Juventus and Barcelona, he then surpassed himself in the final with a string of fine saves to keep Borussia Dortmund at bay and cap off a fine season with a European trophy.

He may not have been called upon as frequently as many of the other world class goalkeepers around Europe, but his sharpness and cat like reflexes were ready and waiting when the time came to spring into action.

Also established as the German national side’s number one, he is not expected to give that title up anytime soon either and will be in between the sticks for their World Cup campaign next summer. International honours remain the only thing missing from his excellent list of achievements and he will be looking to rectify that after another dominant season with the Bavarian giants.
