The CaughtOffside 50: The Best Footballers In the World Today

23. Xavi

Despite the club wining the Spanish league again this season, it feels as though proceedings at the Camp Nou were a little quieter this time around.

The evergreen Xavi, though, proved at 33-years-old that he is still capable of playing some illuminating football, a thought echoed by the club as they offered him a new extension to stay and help the younger members of the side out until 2016.

He may be quiet and understated, by he has ‘future Barcelona coach’ written all over him and there is a sense that once his playing days are done he will be all ready to go and be installed straight away.

However, he still has a lot of football to play before that and was once again included in the FIFA team of the year. He still managed to chip in with his fair share of goals and is just as important to the national side as he’s ever been.

This could be one of the last times that he will appear in the CaughtOffside 50 as his career ticks by into its twilight.
