The attacking midfield star missed part of the previous campaign through injury, but returned for a personally impressive season this time around, even though it ended in disappointment as they lost out on their league title as well as the Champions League.

The 21-year-old made it into double figures for both goals and assists this season, with only Iniesta, Mata and Franck Ribery creating more goals for their teammates that him.

He was responsible, alongside Robert Lewandowski, for the dismantling of Real Madrid in the semi final of the Champions League and even managed to bag himself a hattrick in the DFB-Pokal clash against Hannover.

His credentials as a ‘false 9’ will no doubt have been noticed by Pep Guardiola as the two now link up at Beyern – a situation that threatened to turn ugly after news of his signing with the German champions broke just days before the two sides met in the final of the Champions League.

Understandably, he sat out of the final and watched his new side claim the title. He also now hold the title of being the most expensive German player in history following his €37 million switch and looks set to continue his rise up the footballing ladder with the Bavarian giants next season.
