The big Uruguayan would most definitely be higher in the CaughtOffside 50 had Napoli actually won some silverware last season, sadly, though, that was not the case as they just couldn’t match the might of Juventus over the whole course.

However, 38 goals in 43 appearances was enough for PSG to warrant spending an impressive €63 million to secure his services.

The club’s second placed finish in the Serie A table was their best finish since the days of Diego Maradona in 1990, and he, alongside Marek Hamsik in the San Paolo midfield have been largely responsible for dragging the side up from the ashes following several humiliating demotions.

Many critics didn’t believe that he was able to break the 30-goal mark again after his chief facilitator Ezequiel Lavezzi was sold, also to PSG, last summer. But the 27-year-old had no problem breaking that barrier and even managed to bag four in a Europa League encounter against Ukrainian side Dnipro, as well as smashing in three goals at the Confederations Cup to further his international credentials too.
