Argentine still set for Stadium of Light switch?

Check in to Transfer Window: Done Deal Alerts

Velez Sarsfield claim a deal for Sunderland to sign right-back Gino Peruzzi is still in the works, according to The Journal.

Club President Miguel Calello made a statement yesterday claiming that the North-East club are still pursuing a deal to sign the Argentine defender, and are awaiting their ‘final decision’ on the transfer, even though Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio has said there is ‘no chance’ the deal will happen this summer.

Calello said: “We have been talking to the people at the English club and during Wednesday we’re going to have a further meeting with the coaching staff. They are going to take a final decision to see if there is any change with respect to what they had said to us.” Peruzzi is a month away from full fitness, and failed a medical with the club last month ahead of a £3.3million move to the Stadium of Light.

With questions surrounding his long term fitness in his knee, Gino Peruzzi appears as if he will not be joining Sunderland this summer, as di Canio states his club cannot afford to sign injured players. “My club is not a club that can sign players with some problems. We are not Manchester City”.

Peruzzi’s move to Sunderland is not the only move that looks destined to fail for the club. After agreeing a fee of £2.5million for Greek starlet Charis Mavrias last month, the player was set to arrive for a medical, but the club have pulled out of the deal.
