Brendan Rodgers’ men take on new boss Mark Hughes’ Stoke XI in the first game of the season. Rodgers will be hoping that the ongoing Luis Suarez transfer saga doesn’t distract from his sides’ preparation, as the Reds start their pursuit on a top four finish.
Liverpool have won all but one of their pre-season matches, and after bringing in Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto, fans are optimistic for the season ahead. The Reds are being heavily linked with Brazilian superstar Willian, but will have to do without the playmaker today as negotiations are still ongoing.
Stoke will start life without manager Tony Pulis for the first time in seven years. The English boss left the Potters last season after the fans became disenchanted with his direct brand of football. Whether Mark Hughes can keep Stoke in the Premier League while playing a more attractive brand of football remains to be seen.
