The veteran Spain international is slowly winding down towards the end of his illustrious and trophy-laden career at Camp Nou and now the hierarchy at the La Liga champions are beginning to think of life without the 34-year-old star.

And by all accounts, Barca want City’s own impressive Spain international to replace Xavi at the club going forwards, perhaps as early as next season if Xavi’s below-par displays for Barcelona so far this season are anything to go by

Xavi does have a contract with Barca though that runs until June 2016, so in effect the player still has another two years to play, but the Spaniards could still make their move for Silva as early as this summer though, especially given how eye-catching the player’s form has been in the north west of late.

Silva, 28, has managed to record five goals and nine assists in total so far this season in all competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s in-form side.
