The Germany international’s current contract in Bavaria runs until June 30 2015 and the two parties have been negotiating of late about extending the 24-year-old’s stay with the Uefa Champions League holders.

However, Kroos has now informed his 1.5m followers on the social media site Facebook that his agent and Bayern have been unable to come to a compromise regarding a contract extension, a development which will have alerted Manchester United.

“Much has been written, especially in the last few days, about my sporting future. The fact is I am very happy to play for Bayern and my position in the team is very good. [However] The fact is also that we couldn’t agree a new contract.

“Since it runs until 2015 this is not a big problem, and we will see what the future brings.

“My focus is on the sport side of things and we will do everything possible to complete the season as successfully as last season.”
