Reds not signing Spanish defender.Liverpool’s move for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno looks to be off, with the Independent reporting that the sporting director of the Spanish club has stated that the two clubs could not agree a fee for the player.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a superb season in La Liga for his club, attracting plenty of interest from top clubs all around Europe, but may now be staying put for another year as a proposed switch to Anfield seems in major doubt.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been keen to bring in a new signing on the left-hand side of his defence, with loan signing Aly Cissokho returning to Valencia after failing to impress in his season-long spell at Anfield, while youngster Jon Flanagan has often been forced to play out of position in that role.

Moreno would have been a good addition for the Reds, though it appears that the Merseyside giants were not willing to pay the £20m asking price set by Sevilla, leading the club’s sporting director Monchi to claim that the deal had hit a standstill.

“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived,” he is quoted as saying.

Sevilla are keen to avoid selling players after also losing star playmaker Ivan Rakitic to Barcelona this summer.
