Manchester United take USA WONDERKID on trial

Manchester United have taken New York Red Bulls star Matt Olosunde on trial, reports the Metro.

The 16-year-old will be hoping to impress enough during his time with the Red Devils to earn a contract. Manager Louis van Gaal has shown he isn’t afraid to use youngsters during his time at Old Trafford, so should the wonderkid complete a deal he could be seen next season.

Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair, and James Wilson are amongst the players to have benefited from the 63-year-old’s preference for youth, and Olosunde could be the latest. The teenager can play at either right-back or centre-back, and is expected to represent the USA at the Under 17s World Cup this October. He could be a replacement for Reece James at United, who recently joined Wigan Athletic.

Although Olosunde is unlikely to make an impact in the Premier League very soon, he could somewhat help United with their defensive woes. Last time round players such as Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and Jonny Evans all looked error prone, with goalkeeper David De Gea being relied on heavily. With the Spain international being heavily linked to Real Madrid, they may not be able to do so much longer, and as such need to improve their back line.
