Manchester United & Man City target skips training in attempt to force summer transfer

Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi has elected to skip training as he looks to engineer a Mestalla exit, according to Spanish source Marca.

The 27-year-old Argentine impressed greatly last season and is the type of no-nonsense centre-back who could prove a big success in the Premier League.

Marca state that Man City are keen on the South American and have previously failed with a €40m bid for his services, whilst Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is also known to be pursuing the Valencia star (via talkSPORT).

Otamendi move to Valencia in February 2014 and barely missed a Liga BBVA fixture in the 2014/15 season, earning a more prominent role in the Argentina national side. The player was named by Gerardo Martino in the Albiceleste squad at the Copa America this summer.

Man United have started the season with two clean sheets with Louis van Gaal opting to use Daley Blind in a central defensive role that arguably isn’t the best use of his abilities.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Man City side conceded more goals than any other side in the top four last season, and having invested in his attack, bringing in Raheem Sterling from Liverpool, the Chilean would do well to bring in a strong defensive leader to boost his back-line.
