Watford have confirmed the departure of the Spain U21 international Jose Manuel Jurado. The Hornets released a statement on their official website and wished the playmaker well.

The 30-year-old midfielder has joined Espanyol on a free transfer. Watford confirmed the news on their official Twitter page with the following message, “José Manuel Jurado has completed a permanent transfer from #Watford FC to Espanyol.”

Jurado joined Watford from the Russian side Spartak Moscow back in July 2015. The Spaniard made 30 appearances for the Hornets however, incoming manager Walter Mazzarri has deemed him as surplus to requirements.

The former Napoli boss looks set to make major changes to Watford’s squad and has already given the green light to the transfers of the Belgium international Christian Kabasele, Jerome Sinclair from Liverpool and forward Isaac Success.

Watford’s star striker Troy Deeney has committed his future to the Premier League side by signing a new five-year contract.

Jurado provided two assists in 27 Premier League appearances for the Hornets this season.
