Chelsea want highly-rated 15-year-old starlet to join dominant academy

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing young French striker Louis Guebbels as they look to add to their impressive youth set-up at Stamford Bridge.

The youngster turns 16 next year and has impressed early on during his time with Lyon, but according to The Sun, he could be set to join the Chelsea academy.

Given that their youth team has been in dominant form in Europe over the past two years, the Premier League outfit are evidently doing something right as they continue to develop young talent and enjoy success.

However, what could work against them is the fact the club haven’t got a good track record of bringing youth through to the first team and giving them opportunities.

With a whole host of talented young players out on loan, the likes of Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are the exception to the norm it seems having established themselves in the first team squad under Antonio Conte.

Given the way in which the Italian tactician has turned things around in recent weeks, it’s unlikely that he’ll be bringing through any other young players with the likes of experienced individuals such as Diego Costa and Eden Hazard now delivering.

Provided Chelsea are thinking long-term and are prepared to bring through young players in the years ahead though, Guebbels could well be advised to join up with the Premier League giants.
