Kevin Davies longs for England chance ???

kevindavies2The red mist has descended again for CaughtOffside’s Romerick, as he sets his sights on Bolton bruiser Kevin Davies:

Deadly Premiership marksman Kevin Davies has gone public on his desire to break into the England setup. The Bolton Wanderers striker, who has notched up an impressive tally of one goal from eight games played so far this season, has rather publicly played down the performances of Liverpool’s Peter Crouch in England’s recent World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland. It appears that Davies believes he could do better than Crouch as England’s target man.

“I feel I can do that job the same, if not better than Peter Crouch,” he said.

“If England are playing Crouch, they are obviously looking to play the way we do at Bolton sometimes.”

This coming from a man who impressed at Southampton, earned a £7.5 million move to Blackburn Rovers, and was so undeterred by the price tag and the newfound pressure that he managed to find the back of the net once in an entire season with the Rovers. Unsurprisingly he was then shipped back to the Dell in 1999 and, after again failing to deliver, was loaned out to then First Division side Millwall in 2002. He was then released by Southampton before being picked up by Bolton two years ago.

Fast forward to 2005, and it seems big Kev thinks he deserves a place in the England side. “I would love a cap and I used to think my time would come, but I honestly don’t think that will happen now – it would probably take about seven or eight injuries,” he said recently. Well, he’s right on the money in terms of his place in the England pecking order. Someone clearly forgot to tell him to improve his own goal-scoring form before deciding to criticise players who’ve already made it. Kevin Davies for England? You’re having a laugh mate.
