Wayne Rooney is not on Bayern’s agenda, says Matthias Sammer.
Bayern Munich are not interested in signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United, Matthias Sammer has told the Telegraph.
The Sporting Director at the Allianz Arena responded to rumours that the unsettled England forward could be part of new manager Pep Guardiola’s spending plans, saying there is absolutely no truth in the stories.
Bayern are one of many clubs to be linked with Rooney, following the recent news that the 27-year-old has submitted a transfer request at Manchester United, after growing increasingly unhappy with his bit-part role in the side.
The former Everton star, once thought of as one of the best young talents in the game, has not quite fulfilled his potential at Old Trafford, and has found himself played out of position and on the bench in important games this season.
PSG and Real Madrid have been linked with Rooney, as have United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal, but it seems that the Bundesliga will not be his destination next season.
“I don’t know what Rooney would bring to the Bundesliga,” said Sammer. “I can’t answer that but I can answer that we have great respect for Wayne Rooney, but there has been no contact with him. He’s not on the agenda. No, no. Absolutely not.”
