Stags avoided slip-up with 4-2 victory

Tampines Rovers Coach Tay Peng Kee was impressed with his sides ability to avoid the potential banana skin that was Courts Young Lions.

With both sides missing several l key players, the League leaders ran out 4-2 winners at the Jalan Basar stadium the Stags Kunihiro Yamashita scoring for both teams,

While team mate Fahrudin Mustafic clinched the game with two penalties in 7 minutes.

Speaking to Goal Singapore. He said: ” It’s always a concern when we play teams at the bottom, as complacency can creep in.

But after Young Lions scored, I was not worried as I knew I had the players to do the job and get us back into the game.

“We got caught (for the first goal) as we had been aggressive and were pressing maybe too hard early on, so we changed things after that and the team responded well. We’re trying to settle the title issue as soon as we can.

“Hopefully we can demoralise the rest of the teams with this lead we have.”

At the mid-season break the Stags sit eight points ahead of nearest rivals Albirex Niigita and also have a game in hand.

With just 4 games to go, if Tampines win their next game against Albirex on August 21st, they will be Champions.
