The north London club have been keeping close tabs on the highly rated Germany international for some time now, with Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger having been hopeful of being able to lure Draxler to the Emirates when the winter transfer window opened again for business in the new year.

However, it now seems like the Frenchman will have to wait to sign the 20-year-0ld, with Draxler wanting to remain with his employers in the Bundesliga until the end of this current campaign so as not to risk his place in Germany’s 23-man World Cup squad travelling to Brazil next summer.

Draxler, who has a contract with Schalke that now runs until June 30 2018 and as such is valued by his club at somewhere around the £25 million mark, is enjoying another eye-catching campaign both at home and in Europe.

In total, the midfield player has managed to register four goals and five assists in his 19 matches in all competitions for both club and country in this campaign.
