It is an open secret at the Emirates that Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a new forward in this month’s window, especially with the north London club currently relying on just the services of France international Olivier Giroud in attack at the Emirates.

And the two attackers that the experienced French coach are said to be eyeing up at present are two of the Continent’s most prolific and deadly marksmen, Atleti’s Spain international Costa and the Portuguese champions’ Colombia international.

Costa is currently enjoying a remarkable campaign in front of goal at the Vincente Calderon, with the Brazil-born player having so far managed to register an impressive 23 goals and three assists in total in just 23 matches in all competitions for Atleti, including 19 strikes and two assists in his 20 league outings for the club.

Meanwhile, Martinez has been in equally devastating form, netting 15 times in 21 matches, including 12 in his 14 league encounters.

However, both men have £30m-plus buyout clauses in their respective deals, meaning that Wenger is more likely to wait until the end of the campaign before making his move.
