Professional striker passes away from injury.
A professional footballer in Indonesia has passed away after sustaining a horror injury during a game last week.
During a match between Persiraja Banda Aceh and PSAP Sigli in the Indonesian Premier League, Persiraja forward Akli Fairuz looked set to score after pouncing on a fumble from PSAP goalkeeper Agus Rahman.
However, as Fairuz bared down on goal, the hapless goalkeeper planted his foot into the striker’s midriff.
The striker was substituted, and watched the rest of the game from the bench before being taken to the hospital at the final whistle.
It was soon discovered the shocking challenge had left Fairuz leaking from his bladder and he passed away six days later.
There is now an internal investigation ongoing into Fairuz’s death.
