Old Trafford side want Allianz Arena star.
Man United boss Louis van Gaal has made Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger his number one summer transfer target according to the Independent.
Van Gaal has opted to end the Old Trafford side’s pursuit of Toni Kroos in favour of a move for the 29 year old who is valued at £25m by this source.
Man United could well do with an injection of quality in the centre of the park and the likes of Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick could all be fighting for their futures at the Premier League side.
Schweinsteiger has completed 12 seasons in the Allianz Arena first team set-up and may be ready for a fresh challenge after and up and down campaign under Pep Guardiola during which the German international started 22 of the Bavarian club’s 34 Bundesliga fixtures last season.
Van Gaal knows Schweinsteiger well from his time in charge of the German giants and is set to be handed a massive transfer war-chest to help improve a squad that only managed a seventh place finish last term.
Schweinsteiger has made 473 appearances for Bayern Munich, winning a host of honours in the process including seven domestic titles and a Champions League triumph.
