Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has now shifted his focus on signing 29-year old Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, after learning that his first choice target Thomas Muller has rejected the offer from the Red Devils and inked a new deal with the German champions, reports the Daily Star.
Van Gaal rates Schweinsteiger very highly, and reckons that the vastly experienced German international could provide some much needed stability to the beleaguered Red Devils midfield.
Schweinsteiger is unhappy with his relatively less demanding role in the Bayern side under new boss Pep Guardiola, and might fancy the chance to reunite with his former manager at Man United. The Red Devils are willing to offer a tempting £23 million for the German ace, which could be an offer worth considering given the player’s age.
Manchester United are in dire need of a commanding midfielder, and the likes of Kevin Strootman of Roma is believed to be another option for Louis Van Gaal if he fails to land Schweinsteiger.
