Four clubs are said to be pursuing a late summer bid for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus, according to sources in Germany, with Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool among those interested.

The 25-year-old forward has been one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market for some time now after his highly impressive displays in the Bundesliga and for the German national team, and although Dortmund have been resolute in their efforts to keep him at the club, they may still be unable to fight off late intrerest in his signature from four European giants.

Big names such as Alexis Sanchez, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas have made their way to the Premier League this summer, with Angel Di Maria and Mario Balotelli looking set to follow, though Reus could prove to be one of the most exciting arrivals of all if he does end up at either Anfield or the Emirates Stadium.

Still, it remains to be seen where Reus will end up in this intriguing transfer battle, as one of the longest-running sagas of the summer could be nearing a conclusion.

4) Liverpool

Although Liverpool are known to be close to sealing a move to sign Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, Brendan Rodgers’ side have been keeping an eye on Reus all summer and would still jump at the chance to sign him if they could. With Luis Suarez’s departure leaving the Reds with much to do to replace his influence in attack, it could be that Reus and Balotelli will join Daniel Sturridge in forming an exciting new-look front-line for Rodgers’ side. The German international could fill in upfront if needed, but will also provide another option behind the main strikers and could link up well with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho, as well as fellow new signings Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic, giving Liverpool potentially one of the strongest attacks in European football.

3) Arsenal

Arsenal have endured a frustrating summer in their chase for a new signing upfront after seeming to miss out on the likes of Mario Balotelli, Jackson Martinez and Loic Remy, and it could be that Arsene Wenger will now look to Reus to solve his problems in that position. Like another new signing Alexis Sanchez, Reus is not exactly an out-and-out centre-forward, but could operate well in a ‘false 9’ role and certainly provide service for the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott around him. Arsenal have looked at the German international in the past and are attracted by his rumoured release clause of just £20m.

2) Paris Saint-Germain

After targeting Angel Di Maria for so much of the summer, Paris Saint-Germain remain in the hunt for a new top-class attacking midfielder, and could now make Reus their top target after also missing out on Chelsea stars Eden Hazard and Oscar. Unable to meet Real Madrid’s asking price of over £60m for Di Maria, Reus should prove a more affordabler target for PSG as they look to adhere to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations. Reus’ £20m release clause makes him a perfectly affordable target for the Ligue 1 giants, and it has also been suggested that they could attempt a swap deal with Dortmund involving unwanted winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

1) Barcelona

Speculation has been hotting up that Barcelona could in fact be favourites to snap up Reus in the next few days. The Catalan giants are long-time admirers of the 25-year-old attacker and were strongly linked with signing him earlier this summer. Barca have made a number of new signings in this transfer window with the likes of Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic as well as new defensive additions proving to be priorities over Reus, but their impending transfer window ban may now see them speed up their efforts to land him before loaning him back to Dortmund for a season. New manager Luis Enrique is also looking at Fiorentina winger Juan Cuadrado, and may even bring in both players in a sensational late double swoop.
