There are many clubs in Europe that have a prestigious history when it comes to winning trophies at the highest level and here CaughtOffside brings you the top 10 in terms of silverware success.
This is determined by how many European Cup/Champions Leagues and UEFA Cup/Europa Leagues have been won by teams from each city across the continent.
10. Glasgow
Clubs: Celtic, Rangers.
Trophies: Champions League x1, Cup Winners Cup x 1.
Back in the glory days of Jock Stein’s era with the Bhoys they were crowned European champions, whilst their fierce rivals also picked up a slightly less impressive gong.
9. London
Clubs: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United.
Trophies: Champions League x 1, Europa League x 4, Cup Winners Cup x 5.
The biggest contributors from the English capital have been in recent times with the Blues lifting the Champions League and Europa League in successive seasons.
8. Lisbon
Clubs: Benfica, Sporting Lisbon.
Trophies: Champions League x 2, Cup Winners Cup x 1.
Although not as many pieces of silverware as London the fact that a Eusebio inspired Benfica triumphed twice in the Champions League gives them more credentials in this list.
7. Turin
Club: Juventus.
Trophies: Champions League x 2, Europa League x 3, Cup Winners Cup x 1.
La Bianconeri are leading the charge single-handedly here as Juve’s glory in Europe has reaped many rewards, although in recent times there reputation has somewhat waned at the top level.
6. Manchester
Clubs: Manchester City, Manchester United.
Trophies: Champions League x 3, Cup Winners Cup x 2.
Their rivals in blue may be the dominant force in the Premier League currently, but it is the Red Devils who help the most on this list with two of their successes coming under Sir Alex Ferguson.
5. Barcelona
Club: FC Barcelona.
Trophies: Champions League x 4, Europa League x 3, Cup Winners Cup x 4.
Once again one side flying the banner for this city and Barca’s recent success in Europe – primarily under Pep Guardiola – has seen them shoot up this list to the top five.
4. Munich
Club: Bayern Munich.
Trophies: Champions League x 5, Europa League x 1, Cup Winners Cup x 1.
Just one single side leading the way for their city here with Bayern having been one of the most consistent clubs in European history, with their most recent win coming in 2013.
3. Liverpool
Clubs: Everton, Liverpool.
Trophies: Champions League x 5, Europa League x 3, Cup Winners Cup x 1.
Aside from the Toffees’ Cup Winners Cup triumph this is driven by the success of the Reds with their last success coming in dramatic fashion in the 2005 final against AC Milan.
2. Milan
Clubs: AC Milan, Inter Milan.
Trophies: Champions League x 10, Europa League x 3, Cup Winners Cup x 2.
One city and two great sides with Milan having won the Champions League seven times and their great San Siro rivals Inter lifting it on three occasions, with the latter being the most recent in 2010.
1. Madrid
Clubs: Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid.
Trophies: Champions League x 10, Europa League x 4, Cup Winners Cup x 3.
Although Atleti have been strong under Diego Simeone in recent times this statistic is held up mostly by Los Blancos with Madrid finally lifting La Decima last season.
