Tottenham Hotspur’s Best Premier League XI Ever: No Current Outfield Players Make The Cut

Hugo Lloris, Stephen Carr, Dimitar Berbatov, Gareth Bale and Sol Campbell feature in Tottenham’s greatest ever Premier League XI.

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be caught in limbo at the moment.

They have come along way from the mid-table no hopers that they were for the first decade of the Premier League.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still miles away from being title contenders, while a return to the top four seems unlikely too.

Spurs have had some pretty special players in the Premier League era.

Unfortunately, they have lost many of those special players as well.

Here’s what we reckon is Tottenham’s best ever Premier League team.

GK. Hugo Lloris

Right now, Germany stopper Manuel Neuer is probably the only goalkeeper on the planet who is better than French number one Lloris.

RB. Stephen Carr

Carr was very much like Tottenham’s current right-back Kyle Walker, in that he loved bombing forward. However, unlike Walker, Carr was solid defensively.

CB. Ledley King

One of England’s classiest ever players. King’s career was plagued by troublesome knee problems, but, even on one leg, he was world class.

CB. Sol Campbell

Campbell is hated by many Tottenham fans, who are still yet to forgive him for joining Arsenal on a free transfer in 2001. Despite their obvious bias, honest Spurs supporters would begrudgingly admit that Campbell was pretty special.

LB. Mauricio Taricco

Spurs have not been particularly blessed in the left-back department, but every team needs a wind-up merchant and Tarrico was certainly that. He was a sound full-back as well.

RM. David Ginola

Spurs signed Ginola and his glorious hair from Newcastle United for £2m in 2000. Was he worth it? Yes, he certainly was!

CM. Luka Modric

Modric dazzled the crowd at White Hart Lane for four seasons with his brilliant passing range and his willingness to get on the ball in the tightest of spaces.

CM. Rafael van der Vaart

A very attacking midfielder who had an eye for the spectacular and scored 28 goals in two seasons for Spurs.

LM. Gareth Bale

Started at left-back, moved forward to the wing and was eventually given a free role, as he grew into one of the best players in the world. He is the most expensive footballer ever, following his £85m move to Real Madrid last year.

ST. Dimitar Berbatov

He appeared lazy at times, but Berbatov was a real magician with the ball. His first touch was immense and his record of 46 goals in two seasons wasn’t bad either.

ST. Jermain Defoe

Defoe ranks fifth on the list of Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorers in all competitions, behind only Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Smith, Martin Chivers and Cliff Jones.
