6. Vincent Kompany – Manchester City

Votes: 5.0%

The Belgian star is arguably the best centre-back in the Premier League right now and has led his side admirably to two title victories as well as being behind establishing them as a regular presence in the Champions League. However, he apparently still has a lot to do to come out on top of a list like this if he is to be considered as one of the greats.

5. Alan Shearer – Newcastle United

Votes: 6.5%

One of the greatest goal machines the Premier League has ever seen, and also apparently one of the best skipper’s too. He led the line and the team with brilliantly for a number of years, though couldn’t add to his single Premier League title that he won whilst at Blackburn.

4. John Terry – Chelsea

Votes: 15.1%

The Blues skipper is one of the top flight’s true warriors, and subsequently is one of the most decorated centre-backs in still playing. Now thought to be winding down his career at Stamford Bridge, but he is still commanding a regular first team spot alongside Gary Cahill.

3. Tony Adams – Arsenal

Votes: 22.6%

The former Gunners skipper led his side through a number of personal demons and was a figure head for the sides’s success through Arsene Wenger’s early years at the club. What the Gunners wouldn’t do to have a player like him on board again.

2. Steven Gerrard – Liverpool

Votes: 23.2%

Liverpool through and through, the 34-year-old is still leading his side brilliantly as they finally look to restore the club to former glories. Has seen a considerable amount of success during his time as a professional, but perhaps not as much as he would have liked, and it’s beginning to look like last season was his best chance of lifting the Premier League title.

1. Roy Keane – Manchester United

Votes: 27.6%

Arguably the greatest warrior the Premier League has ever seen and with enough decorations to prove it. The Irishman has given United fans enough memories to fill a life time, whether it be his battles with Patrick Vieira (who is curiously missing from the voting) to attacking the ‘prawn sandwich brigade’ that blight his club’s image, it’s fair to say he won’t be forgotten at Old Trafford in a hurry.
