10) Edwin van der Sar

Four-time Dutch league winner with Ajax, and four-time Premier League winner with Manchester United. A Champions League winner who was also voted man of the match in the 2008 final. Holds the caps record for the Netherlands with 130.

9) Gianluigi Buffon

Seven-time Serie A winner with Juventus, although sadly never a Champions League winner. He was however a World Cup winner with Italy back in 2006 and was a Ballon d’Or runner-up that same year.

8) Iker Casillas

Five-time La Liga champions and three-time Champions League winner, Casillas is among the most highly decorated players of all time. A World Cup winner in 2010, he was also part of the Spain side that won consecutive European Championships.

7) Oliver Kahn

Eight-time Bundesliga winner and one-time Champions League victor, the German veteran was also awarded the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball in 2002 for being the tournament’s best player, as he helped his side reach the final.

6) Peter Shilton

Still England’s most capped player, and will remain so until Wayne Rooney is able to surpass his tally of 125. A first division winner with Nottingham Forest, where he also tasted double European Cup success.

5) Sepp Maier

Won the World Cup with West Germany in 1974, while making in excess of 500 league appearances for Bayern Munich. Went onto act as goalkeeping coach for both club and country until finally hanging up his boots in 2008.

4) Peter Schmeichel

Won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the Champions League during his time with Manchester United, and was also part of the Denmark side that famously won Euro 1992.

3) Dino Zoff

Won the 1982 World Cup with Italy as well as six Serie A titles with Juventus. Also led Juve to Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup success as a manager, while he also took his country to the Euro 2000 final.

2) Gordon Banks

England’s World Cup winning goalkeeper way back in 1966, as well as the man who made THAT save against Pele four years later. Won his only major domestic honour with Stoke City in the 1972 League Cup final.

1) Lev Yashin

Remains the only goalkeeper to have ever won the Ballon d’Or, with his success coming all the way back in 1963. Inspired Dynamo Moscow to five league and three cup triumphs, while also making 78 appearances for the Soviet Union.
