Rumours had been going around that the Old Trafford club were going to make a €20 million bid for the 28-year-old, but this would seem to have put the chances of that happening on the back-burner.

With Phil Jones, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, and Marcos Rojo all suffering from injuries, the Red Devils had been looking to get a defender in to cover the losses. This news will mean that their search will have to continue for the foreseeable future.

When Diego Simeone was asked about the Uruguayan’s availability he simply laughed and said, “How much? Twenty? For Godin? It must be a mistake.”

Godin was part of Uruguay’s squad for the 2014 World Cup back in the summer, and has since been in good form for last season’s La Liga champions.
