Man United All-Stars: How £200m Will Make Louis Van Gaal’s Side World Beaters In 18 Months

Manchester United will turn their side into world beaters by spending more and more in the coming months…

Reports in the Daily Star claim that Manchester United are preparing to finance a £200m assault on the transfer market, while the Independent believe Louis van Gaal’s side will spend half of that next summer.

The Dutchman is determined to revitalise the Red Devils, having taken over the Old Trafford side this summer, following last season’s seventh place finish under David Moyes. United sit fourth in the current standings, having won all of their last four games.

Van Gaal has already spent £150m on his squad, bringing in the likes of Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Radamel Falcao, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind, and that degree of spending certainly doesn’t look likely to slow any time soon.

Here are eight players United will target to transform their side back into world beaters in the next 18 months:

Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

One of three defenders linked by the Independent. The German World Cup winner has established himself as one of the most dominant defenders in world football, and Dortmund had to fight to keep hold of him during the summer window.

Aymeric Laporte (Athletic Bilbao)

One of three defenders linked by the Independent. An exciting young Frenchman who looks set to become one of the world’s best centre backs, after an exceptions start to his career in Spain. Still only 20-years-old.

Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)

One of three defenders linked by the Independent. An experienced head at 28, with plenty of experience at the top level having won La Liga and played in the Champions League final last season. Also went to the World Cup with Uruguay.

Kevin Strootman (Roma)

Linked by the Daily Mail. An exceptional central midfielder who Van Gaal knows well from his time as Netherlands manager. The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent times, but that has seemingly not dampened United’s interest.

Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint Germain)

Linked as part of a double deal by the Independent. The PSG forward has grown tired of playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and has spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League. An excellent alternative to Radamel Falcao, should United not take him permanently.

Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Linked as part of a double deal by the Independent. One of the most wanted players in Europe and, like Hummels, could be available following Dortmund’s recent struggles domestically. Bayern Munich will also have a big say in Reus’ future as they close in on a deal.

Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich)

Linked by the Daily Mail. The former Chelsea and Real Madrid star is another player Van Gaal knows from his time with the Dutch national side. An exceptional talent who has seemingly got better with age, he would still be a huge asset, even at 30-years-old.

Dani Alves (Barcelona)

Most recently linked by the Daily Mirror. A long term target who is out of contract at Barcelona at the end of the season. Nathaniel Clyne would arguably be a preferable choice considering the two players ages, but the Brazilian has proven quality.
