Here are five other times where he let his anger get the better of him. Which do you think is the craziest?
5) Patrick Vieira scuffle
Apparently before the Red Devils’ 4-2 win over Arsenal in 2005, the Frenchman was bullying Gary Neville in the tunnel. Then who turns up but Keane, and he proceeds to launch a tirade at the opposing captain.
4) Prawn Sandwich Brigade
The former Aston Villa assistant manager laid in to his own fans at one point, branding them the “prawn sandwich brigade” because of the poor atmosphere at home games.
“Our fans away from home are as good as any, but some of them come here and you have to wonder do they understand the game of football? At home they have a few drinks and probably the prawn sandwiches, and they don’t realise what’s going on out on the pitch. I don’t think some of the people who come to Old Trafford can spell football, never mind understand it,” he said.
3) MUTV rant
Not only was he not afraid of offending the supporters, he also went for his own teammates as well. In an interview on the club’s own TV channel, he launched a tirade against his fellow players.
One example is his thoughts on Rio Ferdinand, where he said, “Just because you are paid £120,000 a week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham you think you are a superstar.”
2) Mick McCarthy tirade
While on international duty, the former midfielder had a massive falling out with manager Mick McCarthy. He was unhappy with the poor professionalism of the set up compared to Manchester United, and launched a foul mouthed tirade.
“Mick, you’re a liar… you’re a f**king w**ker. I didn’t rate you as a player, I don’t rate you as a manager, and I don’t rate you as a person. You’re a f**king w**ker and you can stick your World Cup up your ar*e. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country! You can stick it up your b**locks,” he ranted.
1) Alf Inge Haaland revenge
After the Manchester City man stood over an injured Keane and accused him of faking it, he was in the Irishman’s bad books. Four years later he ended the Norwegian’s career with a horror tackle.
He explained in his autobiography, saying he’d “waited long enough. I f****** hit him hard. The ball was there (I think). Take that you c***. And don’t ever stand over me sneering about fake injuries.”
