The Brazilian was forced off after just 15 minutes and replaced by Joe Allen though it was initially unclear what the problem was.

The midfielder had only just returned to the Reds starting XI after missing their mid-week FA Cup tie with Bolton with an abductor injury.

And Brendan Rodgers has since confirmed that Lucas may have suffered a recurrence of the injury and refused to give a timescale for his return to the Liverpool squad saying they wouldn’t know until he had a scan.

“We’ll just have to assess it. He had a slight problem with his adductor – that’s why he missed the last game,” said Rodgers, reports Daily Express.

“He felt it again there, so we’ll see what the scan says on that.”

Lucas has been crucial to the Reds success this season with Liverpool enjoying a greater win percentage that drastically falls without him in the side.

But they may have to face Tottenham Hotspur without him in a key tie that could have repercussions on which sides qualify for the Champions League places at the end of the season.
