Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is keen on adding more steel to the centre of his midfield and will battle Arsenal in pursuit of French international Morgan Schneiderlin.

The 25 year old has been a great servant for the south-coast side, helping the Saints to progress from League One to the upper reaches of the Premier League, but could perhaps be interested in a high-profile move to Man United.

Having conducted one successful Southampton full-back raid, signing youngster Luke Shaw last summer, Man United are now looking to repeat the trick with a move for England right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

Koeman has commented on the likelihood of retaining his top stars, honestly pointing out that Champions League qualification could be key.

“If there is any interest in these players, it will be easier for us if we play European Cup football to keep them. That’s always an important reason for a player to stay.” the Dutch manager stated.

Indeed should Southampton retain a top four spot then Koeman will hope this would allay the possibility of his side once again losing their best talents.
