The Red Devils already spent a whopping £150m under van Gaal last summer, but have struggled to establish themselves as title contenders again this term as they fight it out for a place in the top four.

United’s under-fire manager is now demanding more money to bring in other big-name players, in the hope that these additions can deliver the Premier League title next season…

1) Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)

In need of a world class centre-back, United look likely to move again for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels after failing in their efforts to sign him last summer and this January.

2) Kevin De Bruyne (Wolfsburg)

Formerly of Chelsea, Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne has impressed greatly in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg this season and has been linked strongly with United and other Premier League clubs.

3) Kevin Strootman (AS Roma)

Another long-term target for van Gaal, AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman is a high priority once again for United ahead of next season.

4) Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund)

Another player who could really improve United in midfield, Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan is the third Bundesliga player on this list as van Gaal plans a raid on the top talent in Germany.
