The Gunners have been exhibiting some impressive form in the Premier League in recent weeks, winning their last four matches. This has brought the North London club within four points of second placed Manchester City, and some fans are dreaming of a late title challenge.

The 65-year-old said, “People always raise questions when you do not have enough players and when you have enough players. I would just like to say that we have chosen a job where competition is part of our job. That means we cannot complain about that. We made that choice.”

He added, “Our job is to serve the club and compete with other people to do as well as we can. The only important thing is what the club achieves.”

Welbeck could play against his former club when Arsenal play against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter finals on Monday. Arsene Wenger has failed to win at Old Trafford since 2006, and it will be a difficult job for them to beat Louis van Gaal’s side next week.
