The 37-year-old has specifically mentioned the importance of Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney ahead of the clash in Turin.

Kane, with 30 goals in all competitions this season, has been in outstanding form.

This goal tally even more amazing when considering that he wasn’t even in the Tottenham starting line up for the first few weeks of the campaign.

The fact that a footballing hero such as Buffon is worried about Kane will surely give the 21-year-old a confidence boost.

The goalkeeper said of Kane: “He is the form player in British football at the moment. Me, as goalkeeper, and the team in general, have been watching footage of him in action because he is going to be a real threat.

“Along with Wayne Rooney and the others, England have players up top who make them one of the best supplied international teams, because they have a lot going forward.”

Both teams go into this match under pressure to show how much they have improved since failing to get out of the group stage of the World Cup in Brazil. At the tournament Italy beat the Three Lions 2-1 in the opening match, but both sides ended up disappointing.
