Liverpool rumours
1) Made his debut back in 2008
A promising talent from a young age, Douglas Costa first made a name for himself in his native Brazil with Gremio. The exciting winger made his debut as an 18-year-old in 2008 and marked his first appearance with a goal in a 2-1 win over Botafogo.
2) He’s a treble winner
Costa brings plenty of experience of winning trophies to Liverpool, having won five titles with Shakhtar Donetsk in five consecutive seasons. One of those was also part of a superb treble-winning season in 2010/11, also winning the Ukranian Cup and Super Cup to add to their league title.
3) Only has two Brazil caps
For all the hype around Costa, he only has two caps for the Brazilian national team since first being called up in 2014. The 24-year-old has, however, been a regular and key player for his country at under-20 level, scoring four goals in twelve appearances.
4) Not much of a goalscorer
Despite his role as an attacking midfielder or forward, Costa does not have the best goals record even in the Ukranian league. Costa has never managed more than seven goals in a season, which could be a concern if he is asked to make the step up to Premier League level.
5) He wants to join Chelsea
Liverpool could struggle to sign Costa, as he has been quoted as saying he would love the chance to sign for Chelsea this summer, with rumours that the Blues are also tracking the Brazilian wide-man.
