(Video) 60% of Twitter abuse aimed at Liverpool star based on sexual orientation

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is reportedly another heavily abused footballer on social media, with a staggering 60% of tweets aimed at him said to be homophobic abuse.

The England international is one of the biggest names in the Premier League and as such likely to attract a great deal of interaction on the internet, though it is unclear as to why many have singled him out as one for abuse with regards to his sexual orientation.

This story has emerged after shocking numbers showing racial abuse aimed at Sturridge’s Liverpool team-mate Mario Balotelli, with social networking sites like Twitter surely needing to do more to moderate users who are only using the site to send abuse to people.
