The goal means the Catalans are 2-0 ahead with only a few minutes remaining and look set to take a commanding advantage to Germany for the second leg.

If Messi’s first goal was good, his second was magical.

Ivan Ratikic played in the little Argentine, and he turned Jerome Boateng inside out before dinking the ball over an onrushing Manuel Neuer.

Messi has been in great form throughout the Champions League campaign. Tonight’s brace marked his seventh and eighth goals of the competition in just eleven games.

He has been equally devastating in La Liga, bagging 40 goals in 35 games since the season started last autumn.

The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday 12th May in Munich.
