The Old Trafford side are ready to make an offer for 25 year old Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller as Louis van Gaal looks to improve his attacking options.

Van Gaal knows Muller well from his spell in charge at the Allianz Arena, during which the Dutchman showed a great deal of faith in the German international, despite his tender years at the time.

Muller played a key role in Bayern Munich’s 2009/10 season, van Gaal handing the versatile attacker 52 appearances in the campaign, and Man United will also look to take full advantage in the apparent breakdown in the relationship between the lanky forward and boss Pep Guardiola.

Van Gaal apparent fears the possibility of losing keeper David de Gea to Real Madrid, so much so that he is now tracking Chelsea’s Petr Cech, who is now Man United’s first choice replacement for the Spaniard.

Man United had been keen on Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris but the Independent claim that previous transfers between the two clubs have left White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy reticent about doing business with the club.

Cech has had to warm the bench this term with Jose Mourinho considering Belgian Thibaut Courtois as his first choice starter.

One wonders if Mourinho would be willing to sell Cech, who is still one of the best keepers in Europe, to a direct Premier League rival.
