It was thought Manchester City would have to battle with Valencia and Atletico Madrid for his services, but Fiorentina have now emerged as the leading candidate for his signature.

It is reported that it would cost about £3,000,000.

With Vincent Kompany looking certain to leave the club in the summer, Manchester City are in desperate need of defenders.

22 year old Kranevitter, considered to be one of the hottest prospects in Argentina at present, has been earmarked as the perfect replacement.

He has not been capped for the national team, but has played for the U-20s.

He made his debut for River Plate in 2012 and his since gone on to make 48 appearances for the first team.

It is unclear whether or not his lack of appearances for Argentina would mean he’s struggle to attain the necessary visas and paperwork.
