The Reds disappointed in the last season, finishing sixth in the Premier League and failing in the cup competitions. This seems to have made the Northern Irishman realise that major changes are need if they are to qualify for the Champions League next time round.

These sales could also raise money for further signings. The Merseyside club have already brought in James Milner, Adam Bogdan, and Danny Ings on free transfers, as well as youngster Joe Gomez. Many more additions will be needed in order to bolster their squad if this many are allowed to leave.

Here are the six they are keen to sell, as well as three others who are available at the right price…

6) Sebastian Coates

The defender was on loan at Sunderland last season, and was an important part of the team when Dick Advocaat took charge at the Stadium of Light to save them from relegation. The Black Cats apparently want to keep the player permanently, and could pay £5 million to do so.

5) Fabio Borini

Another who Sunderland are interested in after a successful loan period in the campaign before last. The 24-year-old attempted to make it at Anfield last time round, but failed while only scoring one goal in 18 games. Fiorentina and Lazio are also keen on the £10 million rated forward.

4) Mario Balotelli

Signing the mercurial Italy international was always a risk, and it has ended up being one that didn’t pay off. Four goals in 28 appearances, and the Reds realise that they may have to loan him out in order to get rid.

3) Javier Manquillo

Supposed to be on loan from Atletico Madrid for another season, but Rodgers could end this early to get rid of a player who only played 15 times last season despite being the only natural right-back in the squad for large parts of it.

2) Luis Alberto

Malaga ended his two year loan deal after just one season last week, according to the Liverpool Echo. Now the Reds will have to find somewhere else to offload the 22-year-old.

1) Jose Enrique

Only featured on seven occasions last time round, while players such as Raheem Sterling filled in in his position on the left. The 29-year-old is on Rodgers’ transfer list as a result.

The others: Andre Wisdom, Lucas, and Lazar Markovic

While the Reds aren’t actively trying to sell this trio, they are open to them going if someone is willing to pay the right price. Wisdom impressed on loan at West Brom , Lucas played well at Anfield, while Markovic struggled to adapt to English football last season, but all three could now leave.
