The North London side will make an £9 million bid for the Algerian international and talkSPORT claim that Arsenal lead the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid in their pursuit of the defender.

Arsene Wenger’s interest in another left-back will lead to speculation as to the futures of both Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, who shared first team duties in the role last term.

The Gunners had been linked to Leicester City left-back Jeffrey Schlupp, but the Ghana international put pen to paper on a new contract at the King Power Stadium on Monday, prompting Wenger to look elsewhere [BBC].

Ghoulam left Saint-Etienne for Napoli last summer and has made an instant impact, making 39 appearances in all competitions, and one imagines Real Madrid’s interest is down to the recent appointment of Rafa Benitez as the Bernabeu side’s new manager.

It was Benitez who brought Ghoulam to Naples and clearly values him highly enough to continue his interest in acquiring the 24-year-old’s service once again.

Arsenal enjoyed a superb run of form over the course of the second half of the 2014/15 season and Wenger will look to see his side mount a genuine push for major honours this coming campaign.

Back-to-back FA Cup triumphs ended a eight-season-long silverware drought but now Gunners fans will want to see their side make an even greater improvement.
