Manchester United confident of signing Arsenal target, want deal done by Monday
Top 10 goals per game ratios with 100+ strikes, does departing Manchester United star match Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea heroes?

It had been reported by The Guardian that the Red Devils wanted to get defender Sergio Ramos in exchange for the 24-year-old, but the acquisition of his Costa Rican teammate would make more sense. Getting a straight replacement for their goalkeeper would surely make losing one of the best in the position far more palatable.

United boss Louis van Gaal was apparently interested in signing the 28-year-old last summer after he impressed for his country in the World Cup. The stopper ended up joining Los Merengues, but has struggled to make an impact in just 11 games there. Manager Carlo Ancelotti preferred Iker Casillas last season despite several high-profile errors.

However, the Red Devils are still keen to get Ramos as part of a deal for De Gea, which could make this offer dead in the water. The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but recently mentioned that he isn’t in talks with any clubs at the moment [Daily Star]. This could be a ray of hope for United as it could also mean the Spain international isn’t in negotiations over a new contract with Los Blancos.

Louis van Gaal is in need of a centre-back after having to rely heavily on De Gea last season to bail out his unconvincing defence.

If the keeper does move to the Bernabeu, then it is imperative that they strengthen the area. Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones all looked error-prone last time round, and United can’t expect to be so porous and finish in the top four again.
